SN65HVD234: CAN waveform quality

Part Number: SN65HVD234

Tool/software:

After making some changes to our CAN harness, we tested the CAN bus and were getting these measurements. Is this within the acceptable quality range? If not, how much would the waveform have to change to fall within the acceptable range?

  • Hi Andrew,

This will depend on the system requirements. If no errors observed, then it is okay.

However, note that the provided seems single ended and CAN is judged on the differential voltage (CANH-CANL). The ringing can still be fine differentially and would recommend to confirm by measuring Vdiff (CANH - CANL) at the farthest node on the bus. Hence, no concerns if the data sheet's specified Vdiff is measured, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.

  • Thanks! The system is currently being tested for any errors during operation, I was just wanting to see if I was missing anything. The measurements were taking with a differential probe, which is why there is only a single line.
