DP83TD510E: Dual Supply Operation

Part Number: DP83TD510E

Tool/software:

Hello,

I would like to use dual power supplies for the DP83TD510E.  Specifically, I would like to power VDDIO from 3.3V and VDDA from 1.8V.

The datasheet recommends using an external 1.0V power supply for DVDD when using dual power supplies because it reduces power consumption.

Is the external 1.0V power supply to DVDD required for dual power supplies or can I just connect CEXT to DVDD like when using a single power supply?  Power consumption is not a concern in my application.

Thanks

  • Hi Cyrus,

If you disconnect the DVDD supply in dual-supply operation, you are simply using the single supply operation instead. The only difference between the two is the addition of the DVDD supply. If power consumption is not a concern, you can use the single supply mode.

  • Hello Vivaan,

    Thanks for the reply.

So dual-supply operation isn't referring to different voltages on VDDIO and VDDA?  Dual-supply operation is referring to supplying a separate 1.0V supply to DVDD?

If that is the case, then it could be made more clear in the datasheet.  What you actually have is 1, 2, or 3 supply operation.   For example, you could have 3.3V on VDDIO, 2.5V on VDDA and 1.0V on DVDD if I understand correctly.

That is correct. I apologize about the confusion. I have taken a note to make the wording more clear in the datasheet for the next revision of the document.
