TRS3222E: Bypass capacitor requirement for IEC 61000-4-2 on the TRS3222EIPWR

Part Number: TRS3222E

Tool/software:

On the currently available TRS3222E datasheet - SLLS793A – JUNE 2007 – REVISED AUGUST 2021, there is a footnote to the 6.3 ESD Ratings - IEC Specifications which seems to say that a 1 uF or larger capacitor is required to be used as the bypass capacitor in order to meet the datasheet specifications when only a 0.1 uF is shown as being utilized in the typical application diagram in section 9.2.  Is this a typo on the datasheet?  Or is it truly a 1 uF bypass capacitor that is required?

  • Hi Gerald,

That footnote in the ESD section is due to the newly designed die for this device. A 1uF cap is required to pass the ESD ratings if you have the new die (I believe new die is the one we will be fab'ing from now on so it's best to design the schematic to include the 1uF cap from now on.)

Is this a typo on the datasheet?  Or is it truly a 1 uF bypass capacitor that is required?

The applications section of the datasheet was not updated to include the 1uF cap (this was missed during the update). Please use a 1uF decoupling cap placed as close as you can to the Vcc pin with a solid GND reference.
