TMUXHS4212: Single ended use case

Part Number: TMUXHS4212

Tool/software:

Can this device be used in a way that treats each lane (half of diff pair) as any valid 10G signal. Where "valid" defines a single ended signal that has the characteristics of one half of a valid differential pair according to the datasheet?

  • Hi Thomas,

Single ended is fine for this device as long as the other differential is floating. Basically, you'll be able to use half of the differential channel.

    Thanks,
    Rami

  • Got it. Thank you.

  • Does TI have a device that can be used in this way?
Each lane can be used separately. Our basic problem is that we must support multiple connected modules with different signal amplitudes. The solution we are looking at needs to switch between active signals and static signals supporting 3 different termination schemes.
    1.) Capacitive only
2.) Capacitive with additional series resistance
    3.) #1 with Thevenin termination
    4.) #2 with Thevenin termination

The signaling could be CML, LVPECL, or static logic levels.

We do not think we should do this with discrete devices, so we are looking for a simple solution like an analog switch that works from 0 to 10Gbps. Since we are switching so many signals, the multi port mux idea fits this application nicely.

  • Hi Thomas,

Unfortunately, we don't have a device that is specifically designed for single ended 10Gpbs. Best case is using the device as mentioned above, with only 1 of the differentials being utilized.

    Thanks,
    Rami
