Hi, Just want to confirm that if this retimer is able to acheive 8.5Gbps data rate ?

    Hi, 

    This retimer will not be able to CDR lock to 8.5Gbps because this is not a sub-rate of 28Gbps. But, this retimer can still perform CTLE on 8.5Gbps.

    There is another method to set the data rate (manual data rate configuration): 
    can we achieve that rate using this method?

    Hi, 

    Manually configuring the data rate using registers 0x60 - 0x63 will still not enable locking to the signal, as the desired rate of 8.5 Gbps is outside the supported VCO range. The device can lock to 20.2 - 28.4Gbps or a div-2 or div-4 sub-rate of any rate within this range. DFE also cannot be applied at 8.5 Gbps, as it is dependent on CDR lock.
