TPS389006: input circuit

Expert 6760 points
Part Number: TPS389006

Tool/software:

Datasheet says max voltage for inputs is 5.5V, as well as a max Iq of 20uA.

Does the IC have protection diodes? What is the max allowed input current?

With that information a series resistor could be used.

Otherwise we`ll need a TVS.

thx

  • Hi Isee,

    Thanks for your question!

Please follow the maximum recommended voltage for all situations (VDD_recommended = 5.5V, VDD_absMax = 6V).

The IDD characteristics are as follows:

    I hope this helps!

  • The key topic is not VDD - they are sure thata will always be at 3.3V.

Key for them is what happens if MON pin is being exposed to >5.5V. That can happen if the voltage to supervise is high and a DCDC fails. e.g. instead of 3.3V that pin can see 17V then. An easy protection would be 1k in series, but only if TPIS has diodes internally so that the voltage drop is being limited.

can you please look into that?

  • Hi Isee,

    Thanks for the clarification!

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the operation of the TPS389006 if the voltage passes the recommended / abs max specifications. In this case, if 17V would be applied to the VMONx pins of the device, this would damage the device.

    I hope this helps!

  • hi Andrew,

can you please be more specific about the inner circuit of the device?

Does device have diodes internally at VMON? And if yes, could you provide some specs about it?

    Regards

    Andreas

  • Hi Isse,

We cannot provide any information about the device beyond what is in the datasheet. The specifications listed in the absolute maximum ratings section must not be exceeded to prevent damage to the device.
