TCAN1043H-Q1: Whether wake up is normal with only Vsup supply

Part Number: TCAN1043H-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1043-Q1, , TCAN1043

Tool/software:

Hi Expert,

In customer's application, when system is in lower power mode, VCC=0, VIO=0, STB =L, EN=L, only Vsup =12V, They need to use INH high signal to wake up SBC device so that system go into active power mode.

1. If wake up event can bus happens, whether TCAN1043-Q1 will go into standby mode and INH is Low to High?

2. Firstly, device is in normal mode, when VCC=0, VIO=0, STB =L, EN=L, which mode device will turn into, Standby mode or sleep mode?

3. If TCAN1043H-Q1 can meet the wake up requirement, would you recommend other device? need BUS fault protection >=58V.

  • Hi Beida,

I am reviewing your question, and I will get a response to you on Monday.

  • Hi Beida,

    1. Yes, if a CAN bus wake up event or local wake up take place, then the transceiver will switch to Standby mode where INH is high. That way INH can signal to whatever power system to switch on, enabling this transceivers VCC and VIO pins and for the rest of the system.

    2. No matter the device mode, if VCC and VIO fall below the undervoltage threshold, TCAN1043 will always enter Sleep mode. The typical VCC undervoltage threshold is about 3.9V which is why INH goes low in the waveform above when VCC is lowered.

    3. All of our transceivers meet the CAN bus wake up requirement per ISO 11898-2. If greater than 58V bus fault protection is needed, then TCAN1043H or any device with the "H" suffix is the correct device to use. However, I would recommend the TCAN1043N since it is on a newer process node, has improved cost structure and data rates while supporting 58V fault protection.

    Best,
