Will there be a need to update the firmware after using the Re-Timer? If so, how should it be resolved?

Hi Jeff,

I'm not quite sure I understand the question. Once the retimer is configured, there will not be a need to update anything until the retimer is reset or power cycled.

Hi Undrea,

Does this refer to whether the Re-Timer chip, after its initial configuration, will still require future software updates—such as version upgrades or recalibration?

Hi Jeff,

Each power cycle or reset the retimer would be configured as normal, no further updates would be needed. Link training automatically occurs with each disconnect and reconnect.

We would like to know, during the debug stage, how the Re-Timer is programmed with software. Or does the Re-Timer not require any firmware to be programmed internally. thanks!

Hi Jeff,

The retimer is configured through EEPROM or SMBus.

TI has a SigCon Architect GUI tool that can be downloaded to help in debug and configuration/testing.
