DP83867IR: Compatibility of RJMG2330A1610ER with DP83867IRRGZT PHY

We are planning to use the RJMG2330A1610ER (Amphenol) in our design due to space constraints. It is a stacked RJ45 + USB A connector with integrated magnetics, rated for 1000BASE-T and AutoMDIX.

Our PHY is DP83867IRRGZT, and we noticed that the internal magnetics configuration of RJMG2330A1610ER differs from the transformer topology recommended in TI’s reference designs.

Can you confirm if this connector is compatible with DP83867IRRGZT?
Specifically:

Are the internal magnetics suitable for the PHY’s signal requirements?
Is the center tap biasing and termination network aligned with TI’s recommendations?
Any known issues or design caveats when using this connector with DP83867IRRGZT?

I couldn't find electrical specifications of the RJ-45 connector. If you could provide documentation on this, I can help you out to determine if this part suits TI's recommendations.
There is no known cause using this connector.

Hi Pradeepraj,

The tolerance on the turns ratio is out of our recommendation. We typically recommend 2% and have max of 3%.
Also crosstalk for 30MHz is out of specification.

Internal magnetics not an issue right? Because in this connector type, CMC is given on PHY side. So can we go ahead with ARJ-196 or 0821-1X1T-32-F? Please confirm.

Hi Pradeepraj,

Internal magnetics is not an issue especially because it has a separate CT for each channel.
Both ARJ-196 or 0821-1X1T-32-F are good.
