DP83869HM: Power Supply Sections of PHY.

Part Number: DP83869HM

Tool/software:

We are trying to build an IOT Gateway. In our design, we are using DP83869HM to evaluate both SFP (Fibre) and RJ45 (Copper), connected one at a time in our design.
I wanted to understand how to power this PHY and what all power rails need supply? From the datasheet, I can see that there are 4 four power supplies we need to provide to the PHY i.e. VDD1P1, VDDA2P5, VDDA1P8, VDDIO and apparently in some defined order.

1. Do I need to power all 4 supplies with 1.1V, 2.5V, 1.8V and 3.3V/1.8V/2.5V respectively if I need to evaluate both Fibre and Copper (one at a time though).

2. Would I require a PMIC for supplying power to these sections or just buck converters will do ?

  • Hi Manish,
Two-supply mode (VDDIO, VDD1P1, VDDA2P5) has the following specific sequence requirements:

We require VDDIO to power up after 1.1 and 2.5V.

Three-supply mode (VDDIO, VDD1P1, VDDA2P5, VDDA1P8) has the following sequence requirements:

We require 1.1V and 2.5V to power up before other supplies.

PMIC should not be needed and buck converter or LDO should just do it.

    Best,
    J

  • Got it , so 1.1V and 2.5V are mandatory and then it depends whether you use only VDDIO or VDDA1P8 along with VDDIO. IS THAT RIGHT?

Also, what sections do these power rails supply inside the IC ? And how would I know if I want to use two supply mode or three supply mode as mentioned in your response ?
