THVD1424: RS-485 Minimum Node Spacing Versus Baud Rate and Duplex

Part Number: THVD1424

Tool/software:

Hello,

I have a question about equation (4) in Chapter 10 "Minimum Node Spacing" of the RS-485 Design Guide (SLLA272D).
Does the calculation method for d (Minimum Node Spacing) obtained from this equation differ depending on the communication baud rate or communication method (half-duplex/full-duplex communication)?

Best regards,
Yasuaki

    No.

This calculation is for the space between each node and is based on the capacitance of the wire and the stub length ( section 6 of the app note) is where the speed of the rise/fall time of the transceiver plays a part in the reflection.

The data rate does influence the reflection magnitude and the max distance you can communicate.
