THVD2419: THVD24x9: EP connection

The datasheet of the RS485 transceiver THVD24x9 does not include a statement if it's allowed (or necessary) to connect the exposed pad (of the VSON package) to GND. Could you confirm, that a GND connection is allowable?

Hi Simon,

Yes, you can use the pad and tie it to GND, it is actually there for the purpose of heat transfer where the GND plane is usually the larger piece of metal so it can dissipate the heat more efficiently.

Note that the layout section 9-8 also includes an example where the GND pins are tied to the exposed pad.
