TCAN1044V: save current also in operation

Part Number: TCAN1044V

Tool/software:

Dear Experts,

Is there a way to reduce the power consumption of the TCAN1044? Is there an application note or something similar available for this?

We would like to reduce the current consumption even during operation. I would appreciate any help.

Regards

Quirin

  • Hi Quirin,

Yes, most savings come from system level changes (standby / sleep, reducing VIO or optimizing termination / topology).

Hence, the device itself provides limited options to reduce operating mode current as the bus termination and bus driver currents will dominate.

    • You may use the lowest VIO voltage the system can accept (if using TCAn1044V. Would also recommend the newer A version - TCAN1044A / TCAN1044AV)
    • Avoid leaving the bus in the dominant state for long periods, use DTO features to limit long dominant currents
    • Use split terminations or consider using higher resistor values only for short / small networks per what is acceptable in the system environment (signal integrity, EMC etc).
    • Minimize node counts or always put unused nodes to standby or powered down and use remote wake approaches to ensure nodes are off majority of the time, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.
