TUSB4041I: Handling of USB_VBUS pin (Pin16) when not used on TUSB4041

Hi,

I would like to confirm the recommended handling of the USB_VBUS pin (Pin16) on TUSB4041.

In our system, we do not use the USB-PD negotiated 20 V rail directly, and we do not require upstream 5 V VBUS detection.

In this case, is it acceptable to leave Pin16 (USB_VBUS) unconnected (NC)?
Or, should we always provide the 5 V rail through the recommended resistor divider (90.9 kΩ / 10 kΩ) as described in the datasheet?

Could you please advise the recommended connection method for this pin when VBUS detection is not required?

Best regards,

Conor

  • Hi Conor:

USB_VBUS is used to detect upstream port Vbus and turn on the hub.

If Type-C port is on upstream port of hub, you still need to connect type-C port Vbus to USB_VBUS by voltage divider.
