MLVD203 vs. MLVD040 power consumption

MLVD040 datasheet specifies max. values for current consumption only, which values could be significantly higher if receiver is enabled than those of four MLVD203s.

Is it really the case that the 4 channel MLVDS transceiver consumes more current per channel than the similar single channel version does in typical setup?

  • Hello,

The MLVD040 design incorporates both type-1 and type-2 receiver functionality while the MLVD203 only supports type-1 MLVDS RXs. This is the primary reason for the power difference.  In addition to the design differences, the MLVD040 data sheet quotes the ICC number at 100ma (RX only) assuming a 125Mhz input signal while for the MLVD203 the data sheet the parameter table states a max ICC (RX only) of 13 ma (per channel) for DC condition.

  • Hi,

Thank you for your answer. I've really missed that difference in conditions.
