TCAN1043-Q1: TCAN1043: Failure Modes Distribution

Part Number: TCAN1043-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1043

Tool/software:

Regarding Failure Modes Distribution of TCAN1043, as you can see in the image below the open pins percentage is missing in the distribution.
Could you please let me know what is the percentage for the Opens? Is this included in the 5% of Short circuit or not?

  • Hi Kristaki,

I reached out internally to get the proper answer to this. I'll update you once I hear back.

My initial guess however is that this device (and other CAN devices) simply don't fail during open circuit testing. Do you think you have encountered an open circuit failure? Or any background as to why this information is necessary?

    Best,

    Ethan

  • Hello Ethan,

    thanks for the reply.

Open circuits are possible in CAN transceivers and in general in ICs.
As you can see in the image below TI describes also the open circuits failures for TCAN1043.

Please let me know for any update in the topic.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Kristaki,

The key aspect about the Failure Mode Distribution percentages that you highlighted is that they are specifically for die and sub-circuit failures (this is also what I was referencing in my initial message). This is different than the Failure Mode Analysis in section 4, where the scope is broadened to include the overall device/package, specifically regarding the pin operation from users.

I got a response from our team that open-circuit failures in the die are already bundled into the FMD. For instance, an open circuit in the receiver section of the die is considered a "Receiver fail." So open-circuit conditions in the die are taken into consideration, but not specifically called out.

Let me know if that answers your question,

    Ethan

  • Thanks you for the feedback.
    Now it is clear.
