TUSB1002A: Inquiry on I²C Mode vs. Pin-Strap Configuration for TUSB1002ARGET Redriver

Part Number: TUSB1002A

Tool/software:

Dear TI Support Team,

We are currently evaluating the TUSB1002ARGET redriver for a high-speed interface in our upcoming project, targeting 10 Gbps USB 3.1 Gen 2 data rates. In our application, maintaining optimal signal integrity is critical, and we are assessing the best method to configure the redriver settings—particularly for parameters such as(and other if any):

  • Equalization gain

  • Output voltage swing (VOD)

  • De-emphasis levels

Our Query:

We understand that the TUSB1002ARGET supports configuration through both I²C mode and Pin-Strap (GPIO) mode. Our intention is to use the I²C mode to access and control the redriver settings dynamically.

Could you please confirm:

  1. Does I²C mode provide full access to all internal configuration registers, including those controlling EQ gain, VOD range, and de-emphasis and other if any?

  2. Are there any functional limitations or performance drawbacks when using I²C configuration compared to the static Pin-Strap method?

  • Hi,

The TUSB1002A is a linear redriver, so it will not have the ability to provide TX equalization such as De-emphasis and VoD adjustment. We will only be able to tune the EQ here.

Does I²C mode provide full access to all internal configuration registers, including those controlling EQ gain, VOD range, and de-emphasis and other if any?

Yes all required register will be available in I2C mode

Are there any functional limitations or performance drawbacks when using I²C configuration compared to the static Pin-Strap method?

No the functionality is the same.
