DS250DF810: DS250DF810 Support 16.22016Gbps Data Rate

Part Number: DS250DF810
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS160PR410, DS280BR820

Tool/software:

Team,

Does DS250DF810 support 16.22016Gbps(JESD SerDes Rate). In default support data rate mode, it can’t. But seems that manual support mode could do. But I still want to double confirm with you, if any customer has this use case, thanks.

 Regards,

Qiang

  • Hi Qiang,

Please note the data rates the retimer can acquire CDR lock to.  Data rates outside this range can only be supported in CDR bypass.

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Hi Drew,

Thanks for reply. Customer use case is that transmitter - 20db IL trace - Repeater / Retimer - 20db IL trace - Receiver. Do you have suggested or recommended repeater or retimer to support this case? Thanks!

    Best,

    QIang

  • Hi Qiang,

We don't have a retimer device that will lock to 16.22016 Gbps.

20 dB IL prior to repeater/retimer is easier requirement to meet.  DS160PR410 (or other PCIe gen4 redriver) target ~16 Gbps data rate and has CTLE boost of 18 dB at 8 GHz.

The 20 dB IL between repeater and receiver is more challenging since a linear redriver such has DS160PR410 will not have transmitter equalization.  A few thoughts come to mind:

    • Customer can rely more heavily on transmitter TX emphasis (pre/post cursor) and the receiver equalization capability.  Do we know what equalization capabilities the transmitter and receiver have?
    • Customer might also consider DS280BR820.  I don't have CTLE boost value at 8 GHz for this device, but maximum boost at 10 GHz is 24 dB.  I expect boost at 8 GHz to be similar.  DS280BR820 has the advantage that it can act as a limiting redriver and has a fixed-width 3-tap FIR TX equalization that would help compensate for insertion loss between the repeater and receiver.

    Thanks,

    Drew
