TUSB2E221: Different I2C address

Part Number: TUSB2E221

Tool/software:

Hello team,

Customer want to use two TUSB2E221 for laptop and desired I2C address is 0x4F and 0x47 (7bit format).

  • Can you support different address by using OTP? 0x47 isn't listed in the table 4-2 of the datasheet. Let me know if capable address is only table 4-2.
  • How and who do customer request it to? By when?
  • How do customer distinguish the devices? (TUSB2E2211001YCG is 0x4F and TUSB2E2211005YCG is 0x47, like this?)

Best regards
koyo

  • Hi Koyo,

I2C address is set via OTP settings and cannot be changed by the customer. The only I2C address we have available for this device is 0x4F.

How and who do customer request it to? By when?

The customer will need to reach out to the marketing team for the BU to have a variant made that has an OTP with a different I2C address. However, if needed, it maybe be easier and faster to implement a mux instead, using that to path the SCL/SDA lanes to the desired mux when needed.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Do you mean customer can't use any I2C address except 0x4F? Datasheet in page28 describes I2C default target address can be changed at TI factory through OTP. But I'm not fully sure available address option.

I understand we should tell to your team if OTP change is required. Please share when we have to notify by and how we can distinguish the different OTP.
Do you mean like below image? It will spend another cost and board space so this will not be an option.

I just mean there is no way to set the I2C address except for through OTP, which would require creating a new variant of the device. We do not have any variants currently that support a different I2C address.

Yes, that image is what I would imagine as the next best option.

I'll reach out over Webex for details on who to contact.

    Thanks,
