TLIN1431-Q1: DV connection to an ADC

Part Number: TLIN1431-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello,

Datasheet section 8.3.13 suggest 2 circuits to connect the PV output to an MCU ADC input. What is the tradeoff between them?

The second circuit includes an unusual 20pF capacitor; could it be replaced by a more standard 22pF one?

Thank you.

Best regards,
François.

  • Hi François,

    • The 1st case provides a low pass RC and series isolation between PV and the ADC to help with limiting surge currents to the MCU. This also helps dampen long traces.
    • The 2nd case is for a much faster response I.e., faster ADC readings than the RC approach. The tradeoff is the less transient / current isolation for the MCU input.
    • Yes, 22 pF is okay.

    In summary, you may use the 1st case in noisy environments where transients are expected to help protect the MCU input and may use the 2nd for faster readings, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.

  • Hi Mickael;

    Many thanks for having responded quickly:
