TS3DV642-Q1: HDMI MUX questions

Part Number: TS3DV642-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3DV642, , TMUX4827

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have a few questions regarding the TS3DV642 MUX:

From the electrical parameters i deduced that it could also be used for USB2.0 and USB3.0, can TI confirm this?

Also  6 Gbps is it per lane or per total for the entire chip ( aggregate) ? If it is per lane then maybe it can go USB3.1 ?

Since from what i understand it is an analogue MUX can it also be used for analogue audio (single ended and differential ) ? If i have the voltages in the acceptable range. If no what outer type of MUX would you recommend? Low distortion is my requirement insertion loss can be a bit larger if needed.

Also are there any drop in replacements ? pin to pin compatible would be what i need/want. From what i see there are none but i may be mistaken, i need a HDMI 2:1 MUX and i would need at least 2 part numbers for this.

TS3DV642 and TS3DV642-Q1 is not really 2 part numbers in my opinion but it is the best i could find.....

Best regards,

Robert

  • Hi Robert,

    Please see my responses below

    • Yes, this device can be used for USB2.0/ USB3.0, as the TS3DV642 has differential signaling (which is necessary for USB), and the main care-abouts for analog mux itself are making sure to use the switch in spec.
    • 6Gbps is per lane
    • Yes, any analog mux could be considered for audio applications, however it is important to pay attention to the RON and THD specs of the mux, as they need to be low. I would recommend the TMUX4827 for audio applications
    • No, we do not have any pin-to-pin drop-in replacements for this device.

  • Hi Katy,

THX  What about  another HDMI MUX IC that has a drop in replacement? (  i need only 1.1Gbps per lane )

Also does TI intend to make a drop in replacement for any of the HDMI MUX es? asking since all have a similar footprint but different pinouts.

    Best regards,

    Robert

  • Hi Robert,

Our team just inherited this portfolio recently, so I do not know what the plans are for future HDMI mux development. However, I can make a note of the request.

As I mentioned, we do not have a pin-to-pin drop in for the TS3DV642. However, I was able to use our product selection page to come up with a list of MUXes that are in the same package (WQFN, 42 pins) as TS3DV642. I'd suggest looking through this short list to see if any of them are better suited to your application than the TS3DV642. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

    Best,
    Katy
