DP83TG720S-Q1: Downspeed to 100BASE-T1?

Part Number: DP83TG720S-Q1

Tool/software:

Does the DP83TG720S-Q1 support 100BASE-T1?      The datasheet say "pin compatible" with TI's 100Base-T1..... Will/Can the 1000BASE-T1 part downspeed to 100BASE-T1.   Or do we have to switch physical parts (change bom) to support different rates?

  • Hi Michael,

The DP83TG720S-Q1 itself does not support 100BASE-T1. However, the pin layout is compatible with TI 100BASE-T1 PHY's. This design allows for both PHYs to be used on the same PCB board with minor component changes. A pin comparison between the devices can be seen in Table 7-3 of the datasheet. Further information about designing a system that supports both devices can be found in Application Note SNLA370A.

    Best regards,

    Greg
