TUSB8041: Need help in disabling only the USB3.0 downstream ports or forcing the hub to work in 2.0 mode

Part Number: TUSB8041

Tool/software:

Hi,

On our hardware featuring a TUSB8041 USB hub and a Qualcomm SoC, we have downstream peripherals that only use USB 2.0. The system is running OpenWrt. We are observing intermittent port disconnections and believe this is caused by signal conflicts related to the USB 3.0 physical connection. Is there a software command or I²C configuration method we can use to force the TUSB8041 into USB 2.0-only mode, or is this a hardware-only configuration?

Regards,

Aheesa

  • Hi Aheesa:

You can use EEPROM or SMBUS to disable USB3 port based on table below.

Please use TUSB8041A  instead of TUSB8041.

  • Hi Brian,

Regarding the TUSB8041A, we understand that I2C configuration is an option. However, our design does not incorporate an I2C bus connection to the hub. Therefore, we need to know if disabling the USB 3.0 upstream interface from the host—while the hub remains physically connected—will force the hub to operate in USB 2.0 mode. If so, what will be the state of the USB 3.1 downstream pins in this disabled SuperSpeed mode?

    Thanks,

    Aheesa

  • Hi Aheesa:

If you can disable USB3 upstream port from host or SOC, then TUSB8041 will acting as USB2 hub.
