Hi,

I am writeing in regrds to the compatibility of SN65DP159RSBR and SN65DP149RSBR they are HDMI retimers and if i use the QFN-40 footprint i see them as equivalent. I want a confirmation from TI.

Yes one is 3.4Gbps and the other one is 6Gbps but for my aplication 3.4 is enough and i think the faster chip would also be ok. There is no mention of a better drop in replacement beeing available, this is why i am asking here.

Both DP149 and DP159 are HDMI re-timers and they are pin to pin compatible with each other. DP149 is designed for HDMI1.4b 3.4G while DP159 is designed for HDMI2.0 6G but maintain backward compatibility with HDMI1.4b.

The DP149 and DP159 are designed to work with AC coupled HDMI source. There are also TMDS171 and TMDS181 that are designed to work with DC coupled HDMI source. But for HDMI 2.0/1.4b retimer, these are the solutions we have on our video roadmap.

DP149 and DP159RSB has the same pin compatibility so they can be a drop in replacement.

May i ask why this is not made clearer on the TI website? for SMPS chips or others it is explicitly stated on the product page that x chips is a drop in replacement that has some other extra features or performance.
