DS160PR410-Q1: DS160PR410-Q1 Configuration Metohod Compatibility

HI TI experts:

The DS160PR410-Q1 can be confitured with three different ways according to the datasheet, such as Pin mode, I2C controller mode (master), I2C target mode (slave).

If we want to finally confiure DS160PR410-Q1 with Pin mode (hardware method), could we also connetct it's I2C interface with external host in order to keep flexibility? Such as we can read it's internal register vaule through I2C interface when something wrong and need debug.

We're not sure whether the external I2C circuit would affect the hardware strap pin status (Pin mode)? Please help confirm, Thanks!

    In pin mode, external I2C connection can affect the pin configuration on GAIN and RX_DET pin. To prevent wrong strap configuration, I recommend to DNI R770 and R771 when pin mode is used and put R770 and R771 when the device needs to be in I2C mode. Otherwise, there shouldn't be any issue.

    1) I double cheecked the datasheet and found that there is no diagnostic feature of the I2C interface, it's just used to adjust the EQ pamater, the only advantange is it can adjust each channel individually. The hardware strap mode only adjust the EQ pamater by group. Am I right?

    2) Another question about the receiver detect state machine settings:

    We wonder to know how to select the receiver detect settings for PCIe Gen4, and which one setting is your recommendation?

    Currently our selection is "3 consecutive valid detections".

    Yes, you are correct. However, in I2C mode, there is an advantage to reprogram EQ parameters without power cycling the device like the pin mode. In addition, there are some register configurations to force rx detect and out of power down mode.

    Because each RX detect pulse is about 150 to 180us between each other, three consecutive valid detection will take maximum 540us to establish a link. If you would like a shorter time frame for a PCIe, I recommend to use L2. Otherwise, L1 will be a good choice, too.
