DP83826I: recommended capacitor on the CEXT pin

hi,

we are using the 83826 in an EtherCAT module and have a doubt on the CEXT value.

The DS suggests 2nF

The SNLA344C suggests 2uF in // with 100nF

The EVM shows 100nF.

Which one is correct?

how does it change with the new "A" version?

I apologize for the confusion. There has been some updates since many documents regarding the recommended value of CEXT. However, please follow the recommended value from the datasheet.

the newest TIDA-010979 reference design | TI.com also shows 2uF // 100nF...

This is for robotics, so guess the importance...

Hi Vincenzo,

I thought the customer is using DP83826, not DP83826A. The A version is our newest revision on this device with better EMC performance. I recommend the customer to use A version instead of the regular version.

For CEXT, the reference design you referred uses DP83826A. And, yes, we recommend the customer to stick to the datasheet’s recommendation if possible. We do not have special recommendations for specific use cases currently.
