TUSB522P: Help to check the application

Part Number: TUSB522P

Hi expert,

Can you help to check whether TUSB552P can work with the insert loss of below application? Customer is using TUSB552P EVM in their system.

The system block diagram:

  • Hi Rannie,

We are looking at this E2E, and will get back to you as soon as possible.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

  • Hi Rannie,

Based off of you block diagram my concerns are as follows:

    1) The 9.6dB pre-channel is above the maximum EQ if the TUSB522p spec. This may not work dues to the lossy -6.5dB cable. The suggested settings are as follows.

  • Hi Vishesh,

Sorry I can't understand the setting. Can you help to elaborate it?

There is a Cable between two USB connectors. The loss of PCB trace and cable is about -9.6dB and it's fixed. Does that OK? If not, where should the TUSB522P be placed?

    BRs,

    Rannie

  • Hi Rannie,

Apologies if my block diagram was not clear. I have highlighted my comments in green:

The TUSB522p has a maximum RX EQ of 9dB. This maximum EQ is less than the pre-channel loss of 9.6dB. Thsi means that 0.6dB of loss will go unaccounted for in this system. The end device may or may not have the EQ to compensate for this.

Its best to place the TUSB522p at a point where the pre-channel loss is close to 9dB, 6dB, or 3dB. This way the TUSB522p can appropriately compensate for the loss with the fixed EQ it has. Any loss over 9dB cannot be compensated for by the TUSB522p.

The 0.6dB is not a very large amount, so we may still be able to pass functional verification in this system implementation. However, this system may not pass compliance.
