TCAN1057A-Q1: CAN repeater circuit

Part Number: TCAN1057A-Q1

Dear team,

My customer is looking for CAN repeater solution. I found the reference design below and understood external logic circuit for aribtration and CAN TRX (or ISO CAN when different voltage level system connection.)

Q1: But do we have aribitration integration circuit CAN TRX IC?

Q2: Can we make the logic circuit simpler?

Your Idea is really appreciated.

Best regards,
Yuto

  • Hi Yuto,

    1. Unfortunately, we do not as CAN transceivers mainly implement the  physical layer only while CAN controllers performs the data link functions such as arbitration or separate repeater logic similar to the reference design.

    2. Yes but it can come with tradeoffs. Hence, would recommend using the reference design that has already been qualified and easiest from risk up to the speeds discussed.

    • Or you may use a small MCU that has the CAN controller receiving frames on one side and sending on the other side.  This requires firmware and may introduce latency as every added MCU can increase delay but typically common and not of any major impact.
    • May use a commercial repeater / module that implements the needed logic internally but may be less flexible, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.
