TCAN4551-Q1: Settings for 40 MHz

Part Number: TCAN4551-Q1

CAN team,

Our customer is having problems receiving data reliably on TCAN4551-Q1.  They are using a 40 MHz clock oscillator CDC6CE040000A.  Data is at 500 kbps.

To help debug, can you provide recommended settings for the registers at :

0x100C

0x101C

Thanks,

Darren

  • HI Darren,

    Sorry for the delay.

The customer will need to match the bit timing configuration used for the other devices on the CAN bus, especially if they are using CAN FD with Bit Rate Switching (BRS).  As long as the configuration matches the other devices, then the communication should be reliable.

Is this a Classic CAN or CAN FD Application?

You only mentioned the data rate is 500kbps, so I don't know if this is a classic CAN application that uses 500kbps for arbitration and data, or if this is a CAN FD application that uses 500kbps for both arbitration and data.  If this is a CAN FD application, are they using Bit Rate Switching?  If this is a Classic CAN application, then the Nominal Bit Timing configuration is used for both the Arbitration and Data phases.

Do they know the bit timing configuration of the other non-TCAN4551 devices on the bus?  If so, what are those settings (i.e. sample point % and number of total time quanta used)

What is the value of these registers they have already tried?

    Regards,

    Jonathan
