DP83848Q-Q1: Power consumption of DP83848

Part Number: DP83848Q-Q1

  1. May I know if there is any low power mode for DP83848 which can be used in low power mode for quiescent current?
  2. What is the power dissipation of the device if it is in power down mode by setting bit 11 in the basic mode control register? I am not able to find this in the datasheet.
  3. If the power dissipation is not reduced too much in this case,  is adding a MOSFET to switch OFF the IOVDD33/AVDD33 an option?
  • Hi Rong,

I want to clarify that DP83848 is an older part with limited support. I recommend switching to the newer DP83826A for a robust 10/100M PHY.

    1. DP83848 has an energy detect feature to go into a low power state when no activity is on the cable. Is this what you are looking for?

    2. Please refer to our AN-1540 Power measurement report.

    3. If you're ok with powering off the PHY, this should be ok. Just be sure the power rails meet timing requirements when powering the PHY back on.

    Best,

    Shane
