DS110DF111: Unable to establish a 10G SFP+ interface with NXP LX2160 network processor

Hello ,
We are currently using a custom developed board based on NXP's LX2160 network processor. We are testing 10G interface on the same which involves a DS110DF111 retimer in between an SFP+ cage. When we try to bring up the link in LX2160 linux we are not able to see any link comming up. Next we bypassed the retimer and tried the same now the link comes up but seems to be somewhat unstable. We are able to send packets too.
My question is, with retimer in place do we need to write anything into it to bring the link up. As per datasheet its mentioned that by default it's channels are set to 10.3125 Gbps which is a required criteria in our case for 10Gbps. Can you tell me what else we are suppose to do on the retimer?

Hi Vilas,

The programming guide for the DS110DF111 outlines device configuration scripts for several common applications. Have you tried implementing these yet?

You can find them in Section 2.4 in the guide linked below.

Hello Gregory ,
I am able to get CDR locked and successfully establish 10G interface link between two LX2160 custom board. But i have an issue when i connect the 10G interface in LX2160 custom board with a PC which has a 10G SFP+ cage. The link seems to be coming up in pc but not in LX2160ardb custom board. I need assistance on this issue.

Hi Vilas,

Was the retimer tuned to the SFF-8431 standard in this application, and what type of SFP module is being used? Could you please also share a register dump of the retimer?

We are using smartoptics based 10GBASE-LR modules.

Hi Vilas,

Could you please try setting VOD to 700mV? In addition, if there is low insertion loss in the system, we recommend selecting low de-emphasis of 0 or close to 0. Please let me know if this yields any results in your setup.

Hi Vilas,

Am I understanding correctly that the register dump you shared was for channel registers? In that case register 0x54 equals value 0x80. As 0x54[7] =1, this indicates a signal is detected. Register 0x02 contains value 0x5C. This indicates CDR is locked. Could you please clarify where the link is not coming up?

Hello Gregory,
We are able to resolve the issue. It seems that there was issue in RCW of LX2160 board which we sorted out and retimer CDR gets automatically locked and link comes up from both the sides. We need not program the retimer.
