MAX3221: Validation failure of RS232

Part Number: MAX3221

Hello Team,

We are currently using the MAX3221IDBR transceiver, and during software validation, we are encountering an issue. A USB-to-RS232 converter is being used, with the TX and RX lines of the DB9 connector connected to the RIN and DOUT pins, respectively. The FORCEON pin is held low, FORCEOFF is high, and the ENABLE pin is held low during operation.

However, we are not observing any data transmission or reception at the TX and RX pins of the transceiver. Kindly provide us with a basic software stack or validation code to verify the functionality of the MAX3221IDBR.

Can we validate the transeceiver without the software just buy shorting the Tx and Rx pin of the transceiver and enable is held low by pull down resistor?

A snippet of the schematic has been attached for your reference.

We don't provide software for these devices. This is considered to be the customer's responsibility.

You should still be able to verify if the device is working by shorting the RS232 TX and RX pins together and then placing a 125Khz square wave on the DIN pin and monitoring the ROUT pin. I would probe the DIN, RIN/DOUT, and ROUT pin. DIN and ROUT should be a mirror of each other with some prop delay in difference. DOUT/RIN should swing between +/-5.5V.

During the testing above, the device will need to be enabled by putting EN# low and FORCEON high.
