Part Number: TUSB8044A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25910
Hello TI Team,
We are currently designing a USB hub, and we need clarification on enabling up to 3A charging current on the downstream port.
Our goal is to make the design cost-effective, so we are not planning to use a USB PD controller. We would like to know if it is sufficient to use only a pull-up resistor on the CC pin (USB Type-C) to advertise and control the desired current level.
Specifically, we want to confirm:
-
Whether using a pull-up resistor (Rp) alone can reliably indicate a 3A current capability to the connected device, in compliance with the USB Type-C specification.
-
Recommended implementation or reference design for sourcing 3A charging current without a dedicated PD controller.
-
Suggestions for an appropriate power/current switch device that can safely handle 3A continuous current per port and is compatible with the TUSB8044A.
Our objective is to implement a cost-optimized Type-C downstream port with charging support up to 3A while maintaining compliance with USB specifications.
Any guidance or reference schematics would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Nikunj
