TCAN1145-Q1: ESD spec condition

Part Number: TCAN1145-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ESD2CAN24-Q1

Hi team,

My customer watn sto know what the ESD capability of TCAN1145-Q1 if they do not use external cap and ESD diode at CANH/L.

Could you pls help which of below datasheet spec are with external protection and if some of them are stressed directly at pinout without protection?

Thanks

  • Hi Scarlett,

Good to hear from you again!

Yes, these ESD specs are tested without any external protection. Scarlett, here is a Seismic link to our main ESD report which you can share with the customer. This shows exactly how third parties verify these ESD specs Note that it mentions the TCAN1146, but this device has the same ESD structure as the TCAN1145 so it also applies.

The main two ESD testing standards are the IEC 62228-3 and SAE J2962-2 for contact/air-gap ESD discharges on the CAN bus. These specify the particular test and setup conditions for these. The "contact" tests are what your customer is likely referring to as "directly at pinout". Our device survives up to 8kV contact discharge on the CANH/L pins when under the same testing conditions as either IEC 62228-3 or SAE J2962-2.

If additional CAN bus protection above 8kV contact is required, then we recommend the ESD2CAN24-Q1 (dual channel, 30kV contact protection, surge protection, <3pF capacitance).

Let me know if that answers your question,
