SN65DSI84-Q1: Maximum DSI rate

Part Number: SN65DSI84-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65DSI83

Hi team,

My customer wants to use this device to transmit DSI data. However, their DSI rate is 2Gbps/lane.

Can our device support this? Is there any other device that can convert DSI signal to LVDS signal?

Regards,

Peter

  • Hi Peter,

The only bridge devices for directly converting DSI to LVDS are the SN65DSI83/84/85. These devices have a maximum DSI data lane rate of 1 Gbps.

The DSI85 supports dual DSI ports as well, whereas DSI84 only supports single DSI port.

Could you please ask the customer to check:

    •  how many DSI lanes they can use

    • whether dual DSI ports can be used
    • their full resolution, so we can recommend the video bandwidth required

It's possible that without using 2 Gbps/lane, the video bandwidth can still be supported by using more DSI data lanes.

    Best regards,
    Ikram

  • Hi Ikram,

They cannot provide the display timing now. They said they calculated the timing and they were sure that they need 2Gbps per lane. They use 4 lane and the total data rate is about 8Gbps. They need dual DSI ports device and both ports need 8Gbps.

    Regards,

    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

In that case, this data rate cannot be supported because only up to 1 Gbps per lane is supported. Please ask the customer what the LVDS panel clock rate required is. Both the DSI data rates and LVDS clock rates should be considered.

Here is an FAQ about calculating the resolutions: [FAQ] SN65DSI84: SN65DSI83, SN65DSI84, and SN65DSI85 resolution guide
