DP83826E: issue with the top marking of DP83826ERHBR

The DP83826ERHBR Ethernet PHY used on our boards exhibits different functional behavior depending on the top marking of IC. Units assembled with PHY devices marked:

  • 826E TI 298 AS7Y G4 → functioning normally

  • 826E TI 198 ALRX G4 → failing to operate,

    • What do the different top markings (AS7Y vs ALRX) represent?

    • Do these marking codes indicate different manufacturing lots, revisions, or device versions?

    • Could the marking difference be related to the observed functional difference?

    • Are there any known functional or behavioral differences between these units ?

    Hi Dona,

    DP83826 had a revision change during the pandemic. There can be a chance this is one of those ICs. Could you read the PHYIDR2 (reg 03h) register of the not working chip? Bits 0 to 3 hold the revision number information.
