TUSB321AI: How to connect VDD pin when using DRP mode

Part Number: TUSB321AI
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB321, TUSB320, TUSB320EVM

Hi team,

I'm considering the USB-C interface circuit as DRP using TUSB321AI.

This circuit is configured to support DRP (Dual-Role Power) mode.
However, we want the circuit to be powered solely by the host's VBUS when the TUSB321 functions as a device.
Therefore, as shown in the attached block diagram, we believe that the VDD of the TUSB321 should be supplied from two sources—VBUS and another onboard power supply—using two ideal diode or back-to-back FETs.

In this case, what is the recommended way to connect the VDD pin of this IC to the power supply?blockdiagram.png

  • Hello,

I would recommend looking at how the TUSB320EVM provides power to the TUSB320. It has the option to be powered from either a type-C, Micro-B, or external power supply. This EVM can also be used with the TUSB321, so the way the power is routed on this EVM should also be applicable to this application.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
