DS80PCI102: Ethernet approach with suitable PCIe redriver

Part Number: DS80PCI102

Hi Team,

Posting on behalf of our customer.

We are currently working on a design that utilizes Power over Ethernet (PoE) and is required to comply with IEEE 802.3-2022. Based on our system constraints, we have evaluated and documented multiple architectural approaches, which are attached for your reference.

Among these, the first approach is our currently selected and planned architecture for execution. In this approach, we are using a Ethernet to PCIe Gen3 single-lane interface, with the DS80PCI102 selected as the PCIe redriver.

We would appreciate your review and feedback on all the proposed approaches. In particular, we are seeking your inputs on the suitability and validation of the selected redriver for our intended use case w.r.t distance. If you believe an alternative redriver would be more appropriate, please feel free to suggest suitable options.

Additionally, for the first (currently selected) approach, we are encountering challenges related to connector and cable selection. We would welcome your recommendations for a more robust solution from a signal-integrity and compliance standpoint, especially with respect to IEEE 802.3-2022 requirements.

At this stage, the approaches are still under discussion due to routing constraints and the complexity arising from the signal travel distances for both PCIe and MDI signals.

We look forward to your guidance and recommendations. I have attached the approach in this thread.

  • Hi Danilo,

I will check on these points internally and get back to you as soon as possible.

    Best regards,

    Greg

  • Hi Team,

This is a gentle follow-up on our earlier message regarding the (3Approach) architecture review.

We are currently awaiting your guidance on the selected approach using the DS80PCI102 PCIe Gen3 redriver—particularly on redriver placement, PCIe routing over cable/connectors, and whether this approach helps in meeting Ethernet (IEEE 802.3-2022) compliance.

Your feedback will help us finalize the architecture.

    Best regards,
    Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

We apologize for the delayed response, much of our team is out for the holidays. For cable selection, we recommend SATA or SlimSAS cables, as they support PCIe bandwidth and lanes. If you use PCIe and this cable, the redriver should be placed fairly close to the connector.

    Best regards,

    Greg
