TCA9617A: TCA9617A fast plus mode and fall time

Part Number: TCA9617A

Hi, for TCA9617A part with fast plus mode, I'm reading Tf at 0.5 nsec and 1.2nsec for SCL and SDA at the input of this part . I'm using this part as a level shifter bewtween source (1.8V) and EEPROM (3.3V). Is this fall time considered out of spec for this part? What about if the other parts in the bus also support  I2C fast mode plus? I'm referring to page 47 of the UM10204 document in footnote 8, which says that min Tf applies for backward compatible mode. Please advise.

  • Hi Laleh,

With faster rise/fall times then the I2C standard, it is possible to observe undershoots/ overshoots, however I would not expect this to result in I2C communication errors (please confirm otherwise). You may use dampening resistors to help reduce slew rate to be within the min/max limits if still concerned.

    Regards,

    Jack
