TCAN4550-Q1: AWRL1432 I/O compatible issue

Part Number: TCAN4550-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWRL1432, TCAN4550

Hello expert,

My customer would like to use TCAN4550-Q1 in AWRL1432 radar solution. But it seems like the I/O cannot be compatible. Is that possible to have a method to use TCAN4550-Q1 in AWRL1432 radar module? Thanks a lot!

P.S. AWRL1432 is 3.3V I/O level. Thanks!

  • Hi Ann,

Our TCAN4550 expert is out of office currently but he returns next week.

However, it seems that these devices are still compatible. A valid low output signal on the TCAN4550 is considered to be between 0V and 0.66V. Whereas on the AWRL1432, the valid low is between 0V and 0.62V. The TCAN4550 will typically output around 0.01 and 0.1V for a low signal. 0.66V is just the absolute maximum that we rate the device will output. I will let either Sean or Jonathan comment on this, but if the customer is still concerned, they can just add a small series resistor to slightly decrease that voltage.

    Thanks for your patience.

  • Hello Ethan,

Thanks for your help! Do you have the resistor value and reference design for this case? Thanks a lot!

  • Hello Ann,

The voltage levels will vary with the amount of load current required such as if there is a strong pull-up resistor that will require the IO pin to sink a lot of current.  I don't know what the current load of the AWRL1432 input pins, but at 2mA, the max VOL voltage is less than 0.067V across all operating conditions.

The AWRL1432 would have to place a large current load on the pins in order to cause the VOL voltage to be greater than 0.62V so these devices should be compatible.

    Regards,

    Jonathan
