TPD12S016: TPD12S016PW HDMI Is not working.

Part Number: TPD12S016

Hi Team,

I am using TPD12S016PW IC for the HDMI ESD protection and using IT62633 chipset for the LVDS to HDMI converter this is due to my core processor supports only LVDS interface.

I have validated LVDS chipset, its dedeicated in my system that chipset details readed in the processor logs.

But other hand while connecting HDMI monitor to connector, Monitor is not detected, but while inserting the HDMI cable, HPD pin goes high. I suspect if there are issues with the TPD12S016PW IC. I have attached schematic screen shot, pls let me know if want to debug anything.?

I have removed choke and tested again, but no luck.!!

  • Hi Ansar,

Please refer to the application schematics in section 8.2 of the datasheet - Figure 15 for your setup.  This is an older device and the development team is no longer active, so support resources are limited.  I took a look at the schematic and have the following feedback:

The first thing I noticed are the I2C pullups.  These are integrated on the device, thus are not needed in your schematic.
R715 should not be populated.  HPD_A should only be high when a hot plug signal is received from HPD_B.

    Regards,
    Eric

  • Dear Eric,

We have made this changes, still there is no responses from the HDMI side. When we plug the HDMI cable, I measured voltage at the HPD_A, i.e 1.8V clearly coming. I2C lines are pulled to high.

  • Ansar,

Have you confirmed your HDMI controller is properly responding to the HPD_A stimulus?  TPD12S016 isn't going to master the I2C line.  It's just a level shifter.

    Regards,
    Eric
