TUSB8041: TUSB8041IPAPQ1 USB Port is not working

Part Number: TUSB8041

Hi Team,

I am using TUSB8041IPAPQ1 HUB for gateway project. I have one source USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 Ports. pls find the block diagram for the same below,

One output port of USB HUB USB 3.0 port connected to USB Type A connector and another USB 3.0 is connected to 5G cellular module from telit.

But, TYPE A USB 3.0 port alone is working meanwhile 5G cellular module is not working. Port is not seen in the system. we unable to get the USB ports for the 5G module.

We have tired removing the USB3.0 signals from USB type A connector and bypassed and connected to 5G Module, then 5G module USB is detected and working.

Thus, Pls suggest have we missing anything why another USB3.0 port is not working. do we need to do any configiuration in the HUB.?

  • Can you send schematic with 5G module , does 5G module need Vbus detect?

  • Dear Brian,

Pls find the attached schematic. Section contains only the 5G module and USB type A connector section. USB HUB is mounted in the SOM Module which will be connected to the SMARC Connector reference des " J4".

5G module does not have VBUS detect pin.

  • Hi Ansar:

Are these signal for 5G module?

Make sure  RX is connected to hub downstream port TX

and TX is connected to  hub downstream port RX unless there is standard USB A-B cable being used which can swap the signal.

  • Hi Brian,

Pls consider below concerns from our end,

First part, we are having one SOM Module which is contains the USB HUB and I.MX95 processor inside.

Second part, we are having two base boards (SOM Fits to both the boards). One base board having two type A connector and second base board having 5G module and one type A connector.

While we using first base board, i.e two type-A connector with the same SOM module,  both the type-A connectors usb3.0 is working fine.

whereas, in the second board, type-A connector alone is working 5G module is usb3.0 is not enumerating, means indirectly SOM module USB hub tx and rx connections are right as this completely working in the first base board type-a 3.0 connector.

Finally, in the second base board, i removed connections from second USB port connection i.e USB2_WWAN_TX_L_DN and USB2_WWAN_RX_DN,  USB2_P1_WWAN and connected to USB port one USB3_TX_DP where TYPE-A connector is mounted, then 5G module is not working. this is our actual problem.

Yes, USB2_WWAN_TX_L_DN these signals are 5G module signals.

Do we have change any port configuration change in the HUB side.? or anything do we need to consider here.

Attached, first base board's type-A connector schematic snip,

  • for USB3  without connector and cable. host TX is connected to device RX, host RX is connected to device TX.

if there is USB connector, USB cable will swap signal between TX and RX

so 1st you need to make sure hub downstream port TX is connected to 5G module RX .
