SN75LVCP601 EQ and DE settings

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN75LVCP601

Hello TI,

The datasheet for SN75LVCP601 gives the meanings for EQ and DE pins in Table 1, but does not give any guidance on what settings to pick.

For EQ, if I knew my actual or estimated (via simulation) interconnect loss at 3GHz(6Gbps), I could presumably pick an appropriate setting, but at the moment the only information I have is my trace length.

For DE, I do not have the expertise to know how to select the right setting.

Can TI provide any guidance?

Regards,

Jeff

  • In general, typical configuration settings of the LVCP601 based on trace length are as follows:

Input Trace Length                          Recommended EQ setting

    0-4 inch                                                0dB

    4-10 inch                                              -7dB

    10+ inch                                               -14dB

Output Trace Length                      Recommended DE setting

    0-4 inch                                                -4dB

    4-10 inch                                              -2dB

    10+ inch                                               0dB

  • Hi Elias,
This is good information, thank you. Now a follow-on question:

    My configuration looks like this:

    host controller <--  10" of trace --> repeater <-- 2" of trace --> sata connector <-- 12" cable --> HDD

When picking the EQ/DE settings for the segment "HDD - repeater", should I count the cable length, or should I only count up to the SATA connector?

    Regards,
    Jeff

  • You must count the cable length.

    Regards.
