DP83822I: Verification of Ethernet PHY ( DP83822IRHBR ) Transceiver Hardware Connection For EtherCAT

Part Number: DP83822I

We are currently designing a circuit for EtherCAT communication and have used the TI Ethernet PHY DP83822IRHBR in our design.

We would like to request your support to verify the PHY hardware connections. Kindly review the attached schematic of the DP83822IRHBR and let us know if the connections, clocking, strapping, and interface configuration are correct as per TI recommendations.

Your feedback will help us ensure that the hardware design is correct before proceeding further with testing and software integration.

Please let us know if any additional information is required from our side.

  • Hi Chetan,

It is our team’s policy to direct customers to use this schematic checklist for initial schematic check and answer any additional questions on the schematic based on the checklist. As such, could you look into this checklist first (https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/snlr053)?

    Best,

    J

  • Dear J,

Thank you for sharing the checklist. We are currently reviewing it from our side.

As mentioned earlier, we are using this PHY specifically for EtherCAT communication. In our design, the PHY is connected to the PT61017PEL magnetics IC. For the EtherCAT interface, instead of a standard RJ45 connector, we are using a D38999/24WC35SN circular connector.

We would like to request your support in reviewing this configuration and confirming whether this combination (PHY + PT61017PEL magnetics + D38999 connector) is compatible with EtherCAT requirements. Specifically, could you please advise whether EtherCAT communication will work reliably with this connector choice, or if there are any concerns or additional considerations we should take into account?

Your feedback will help us validate our design approach.

Thank you for your continued support.

  • Hi Chetan,

The circular connector should work as long as the connections are correct.
For magnetics, the tolerance in the turn ratio is out of our recommendation (5% vs 2%).
Below is the recommended specification for your reference:

  • Hi J

Can i go with "TM1188NL" this magnetics ic??

  • Hi Chetan,

    TM1188NL looks good.
