DS90UB964-Q1: If I replace 964 with 962, can softawre remain unchanged?

Part Number: DS90UB964-Q1

Our company has a mass-production model using the DS90UB962 (with 4-lane 1.6G output). Now we want to replace to the DS90UB964, can we replace it directly without changing the software? Thank you.

    DS90UB964  $12

  • Hello Jianchen,

The 964 and 962 are p2p compatible, so it is possible for you to replace the 964 in your design with a 962. However, please note these differences:

    1. The 964 is only compatible with DVP serializers. The 962 is compatible with DVP and CSI-2 serializers (up to 2.528Gbps of video throughput).
    2. The 964 has 2 CSI TX Ports available. The 962 has 1 CSI TX Port available.

Please make sure to make the appropriate hardware changes accordingly.

In terms of software, both the 962 and 964 require some code to instruct howthe Des how to package the incoming parallel data into a specific CSI packet. If you connect CSI cameras/serializer to the RX Ports of the Des instead of DVP cameras/serializers, then you can remove that code, since it is unnecessary. But if you still connect a DVP cameras/serializers to the RX Port of the Des, then you need to keep that code.

    Best,
    Justin Phan

  • Hello Justin,

    Thanks for your reply!

Sorry, I might have expressed it incorrectly. I want to change 962 to 964.

The serializers in used is DS90UB913, and only 1 CSI output port is used.

    The usage is as follows:

DS90UB913*4--->DS90UB962 (will be changed to DS90UB964)---> only one CSI output

The incoming and output data of the deserializer are exactly the same. In this case, does the software need to be changed? Can we just use the original 962 software on the 964?

    Thanks.

  • Yes, in this case, the software is exactly the same if you transition from 962 to 964. Assuming that you still use DVP serializers, such as the 913, your desired MODE, IDX, and CSI output ports are all exactly the same.
