LMH1297: About Input Carrier Detect

Part Number: LMH1297

Hi Ti support,

The LMH1297 is equipped with Input Carrier Detect. I have a question about this detection function. I'm asking assuming a 1.485 Gbps setting.

(Conditions)
If the input signal amplitude is within the standard, but the data rate is -10% (e.g., 1.34 Gbps) lower, I think an error will be detected.

Q1) When an error is detected, will the SDI output be muted?

Q2) In the case of (1), is there a way to output SDI while maintaining the input data rate at 1.34 Gbps?

Regards,
Shuichi Sugi

  • Hi Sugi-san,

Yes, in this case, I expect that input carrier detect will indicate signal but CDR won't be locked.

I do not expect SDI output to be muted in this case, but the reclocker will not be locked so the eye will not look as clean.

    Best,
    J

  • Hi J,

Thank you for replying for me.

Actually, we're not interested in transmitting the standard HD-SDI signal (1.485Gbps), but rather a signal with near a data rate.
We're currently considering whether it's possible to transmit an SDI signal format with a data rate of 1.0Gbps.

Based on your reply, if the data rate is different, the LMH1297 will generate a receiving error and no signal will be output from the SDI output.

     Is this correct?

  • Hi Sugi-san,

Actually, CDR will not lock but there is an output on SDI OUT.

    Best,

    J
