P82B96: Question about using 1 pieace of P82B96

Part Number: P82B96

Please help answer the following two questions from a customer.

1)  The customer knows the standard usage of P82B96DGKR is to use 2 between I2C communication lines in the configuration "Master -P82B96DGKR ~(cable)~ P82B96DGKR- Slave," but is there no problem to use only 1 in the configuration "Master ~(cable)~ P82B96DGKR- Slave"?

The customer is currently considering whether we can eliminate P82B96DGKR on the master side and proceed with only the slave side.

2) The customer asks to tell them the electrical characteristics of Tx, Ty VOL of P82B96 DGKR? When they checked the data sheet, only Sx and Sy were listed for VOL characteristics.

When considering the configuration of (1) above, the customer asks us to provide the conditions and temperature characteristics for the VOL of Tx and Ty as they need to be specified.

The customer's power supply voltage is VCC=4.5 V to5.5V.

Thank you

  • Hi Takashi,

    1)  The customer knows the standard usage of P82B96DGKR is to use 2 between I2C communication lines in the configuration "Master -P82B96DGKR ~(cable)~ P82B96DGKR- Slave," but is there no problem to use only 1 in the configuration "Master ~(cable)~ P82B96DGKR- Slave"?

The customer is currently considering whether we can eliminate P82B96DGKR on the master side and proceed with only the slave side.

This can work. The main reason for using two P82B96's is due to large current drive needed for large cap loads up to 4000pF.

If the customer has a reduced cap load, say <400pF, then 1 - P82B96 can work.

The VOL and IOL characteristics are found in the recommended operating conditions in the datasheet for the buffered output side (transmission side).

See the Tx and Ty specs for IOL at specified VOL.

These are guaranteed across the operating free-air temperature range -40C to 85C.

    Regards,

    Tyler
