TPD4E1B06: discolorization leads

Hi Techsupport,

Our endcustomer ordered from us the part TPD4E1B06 , you can find it on our website here:

They received it in the reel with discolorization on the leads. After soldering these parts on the pcb, the discolorization persists. Is this a quality issue or just a cosmetic issue?

Hello McKenzie,

The parts had to be handsoldered, the reflow solder process did not work.

So could it be oxidation?

Hi Marc,

Yes, there is a chance it could be oxidation. Do you or the customer have the device label? This will help me track down where the units were manufactured and when.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the info. The date code on these are from a few years ago so there is a chance of oxidation. Has the customer tried to increase the temperature during reflow?

Hello Eaker,

They decided to solder the parts by hand. So they did not go to the reflow process.

To what temperature should they raise the reflow max temp? Do you have a solder profile for this oxidation issue that they should use?

Hi Marc,

The peak reflow temperature should be 260C. I don't think we have a solder profile for this, but I will check.

I also found this good document on MSL, reflow, and storing devices (link). Even though this device is MSL 1 rated, temperature and humidity can factor into issues with the device.
