ESD2CANFD36-Q1: Difference between ESD2CAN36-Q1 and ESD2CANFD36-Q1

Part Number: ESD2CANFD36-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ESD2CAN36-Q1

Dear TI experts,

Could you explain exact differences between ESD2CAN36-Q1 and ESD2CANFD36-Q1?

first page of the datasheet explains the differences briefly. It looks like ESD2CAN36-Q1 has better performances.

But regarding to just names of the 2 parts, It looks like I should apply ESD2CAN36-Q1 to classic CAN lines, and ESD2CANFD36-Q1 to CAN-FD lines.

So could you explain how can I apply these 2 parts to real system? Is it okay to use ESD2CAN36-Q1 to CAN-FD lines?

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

The main differences between the two are ESD ratings, surge ratings, and capacitance. The capacitance of the CANFD36 device is lower which causes the ESD ratings and surge rating to be lower due to tradeoffs.

CAN36 can support CAN-FD lines. Either device can be used, but in my opinion I think CAN36 is the better option because it offers better ESD protection.

    Best,

    McKenzie
