DS110DF410: Synchronizing between two DS100DF410

Hi Team

In my system i have two Retimers of DS110DF410 located at two different systems as can be seen in the following diagram

System A which is the Primary drives three channels while system B drives a single channel.

In each system the DS110DF410 is configured by its own FPGA. 

The Primary sends a command and waits for the secondary response. Sometimes the communication fails probably because the DS110DF410 didnt lock.

My questions are:

  1. If we use two retimers do we need to keep some sequence between the two retimers. so we can garentee lock of both of the systems.
  2. Does the DS110DF4100 have to have valid communication in order to get locked ( to make CDR Reset only after data exists)?

  • Hi Roey,

    1. The DS110DF410 will operate best if it performs adaptation with a stable signal.  We often recommend that once a signal is known to be stable (e.g. SFP module has been inserted), a CDR reset is triggered in order to trigger re-adaptation to the signal.

    2. The DS110DF410 requires valid data on its receiver in order to acquire CDR lock.

    I have two more questions

    1. if the retimer achieved lock status and then the input is lost (no input detect) for several msec or more. Does the retimer keep the configuration so when the input is back it will achieve CDR lock again without CDR reset?

    2. Can the retimer withstand input signal while the retimer doesn't have power source? 

    I saw that the retimer has ESD protection, but Absolute Maximum Rating specifies -0.5V to 2.75V and not a dependency on VDD

  • Hi Roey,

    1. The retimer will attempt to lock to a signal when signal detect condition is met.  When it re-locks to a signal, it will also go through adaptation again.

    2. Yes, it can withstand input signal while its unpowered.  Input signal should stay within the absolute maximum ratings.
